Introduction

I spent months reading forums and wikis and I just wanted to share my experience with everyone. Yes you can do it the easy way, in fact you will not be doing anything! Now you can download my Auto-install setup file and it will do everything for you. Now your RC6 remote setup has never been easier than this ever.

I've bought this RC6 remote that is compatible with Windows Media Center and capable of sending keyboard keystrokes as well as Remote IR codes. My setup files should work with any Microsoft Windows Media Centre certified remote.

The remote will work with XBMC without any extra applications running in the background like Eventghost, hence better functionality and less system resources used.

After spending sometime helping users and receiving feedback I was amazed to find out that the setup also works on One4All remotes, Harmony remotes and XBOX 360 remotes as well. The XBOX 360 needs a little reg hacking to make it work, thanks to John Rennie for the hack details.

Just keep in mind that only Fully MCE RC6 certified remotes will function well and any other cheap clones will not perform as well as the RC6's. In the other hand the Harmony should emulate MCE remotes very well but some users reporting lags that can be fixed within logitec remote setup.

The important thing to do first before starting anything, is to check that you have "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" driver in Device Manger_> Human Interface Devices. If you cannot find it then you do not have an RC6 compatible remote. Then I'm affraid that my setup will not fully work for you. My aim in this project is to concentrate on the MCE remotes and make them function exactly like my old beloved Original XBOX 1st gen remote by adding extra features here and there for a complete XBMC fluid out of the box experience.

Please note that my setup files is aimed at Windows operating system users x64 and x86 alike and MCERemoteMapper is designed for Windows, it will also require ".NET Framework 2.0 or later" to be installed before being able to use it, or if you prefer to know how things is done manually then my tutorial.pdf is the one to read.
